Comments:

I picked up two pair of the 8" HD in ceiling speakers and I am thoroughly impressed. Bass is important to me and these absolutely shine. One pair is in my office, which is fully insulated for sound dampening, so they obviously sound great in there (it's also not a huge room). Where I'm blown away is how great they sound in our outdoor screened patio!!! They're in a tounge and groove pine ceiling that is an open cavity (I put a little batt insulation in the hole, the. Installed the speakers), and people have asked me where the subwoofer is!! They're crystal clear even at high volume! You simply can't beat these for the price!! HTD service is fantastic as well. Looking forward to my next purchase of a multi room amp!

This is not the first time using this company. I kept going back for my audio needs. There support are very good, and the systems they offer ranging from basic to the most comprehensive for your needs. Highly recommended.

Comments:

I was looking for a set of speakers that would fit seamlessly into a covered outdoor deck. After doing a bit of research, I settled on the HD-R80. The reviews were good, the specs were in line with what I was looking for. The speakers are extremely well designed. They are also extremely easy to install with ceiling / painting/ gasket templates and integrated mounting hardware. The speakers are also fairly efficient, not needing a lot of power to drive. The best selling point is the sound. As a music enthusiast, I am looking for a set of speakers that not only can handle the audio frequency spectrum, but that does not wash out the output. For an inexpensive set of speakers, the HD-R80s perform very well. They deliver full spectrum audio that is surprisingly crisp in the outdoor, open air setting, The directional tweeters are a definite plus.

These are installed in my larger rooms, the balance of R80 and R65 through the home is perfect. I sent a copy of my house plans to HTD and they picked out the speakers that I needed for each room. No matter the volume level (moderate of course) when you walk from one room to the other, no matter the size it all sounds the exact same with different size speakers and different count speakers, job well done HTD, thank you.

I have installed seven of these speakers (and a subwoofer) in my family room and the sound is enveloping throughout the room. This is a huge improvement to the three cabinet speakers which I was using earlier. I am happy with the performance for the money that I paid.

Put 4 of these in the ceiling for my home theater room. I was impressed with the package and protection for shipping. These are not light weight cheap speakers. I cut some plywood backing for the ceiling tiles for support and installed the speakers. Great sound! Now I'm thinking of adding 2 for the side surround channel. These are great speakers for the price. Well worth it for any system to add in the ceiling or a wall.

I put these in our large great room with a 7.1 audio system. The sound is really good and they were easy to install. I installed much more expensive ceiling speakers in the past 2 homes we have owned and these sound just as good for over a thousand dollars less. I'm really glad I made the purchase!

Put in the outside ceiling under patio. This is my second set of speakers. The first set were no durable and the cones were broken down in less than a year. These are to soon to evaluate yet but seem to be more sturdy. The sound is great and undistorted even at the louder outputs. Easy install

Ceiling installation in our 100 year old house, easy to install even in our lath and plaster ceiling. They sound great right out of the box and the ability to point the tweeter and fine-tune the treble and bass.

Added these to the vaulted ceiling of our main great room. Nice clear balance of sound with reasonably good bass response. I'll be changing out the 6.5" speakers in the basement great room for these and putting a pair in the ceiling of the covered deck. Very nice units.

Comments:

Installed these powered by a high grade DAC stereo amp through an in wall volume slider controller for the purpose of full range higher end music. They are extremely accurate, linear and great soundstage dispersion. This may be a curse to someone using cheaper amps/low grade sources though, for these will present that poor quality with little forgiveness unlike a cheap dampened polypropylene set. Four of these covered a large living room/dining room/kitchen open concept with no null areas (positions selected very carefully however). Full band spectrum is exceptional with natural warm midrange very rarely heard, and bass is potent, deep yet smooth, not exaggerated boomy bass. Highs are so smooth and not top end sparkly like silk domes illustrating the lack of peaks and integrate with woofer seamlessly; the 2nd order crossover on 'both' drivers (not just tweets letting woofer play off into break up land like other brands) help this though. Since I had access to the attack, in lieu of the pre- construction brackets, I built 14.5" square baffles with supports attached to the joists out of 5/8"MDF with the template diameter precut so that once in the attic I just had to pop a hole through the drywall from above using the MDF hole as the template. Solidifies the low end extension and takes all the pressure off the drywall integrity. Only complaint, and if I could take 0.5 star off for this, is the frame is just as generic as any cheap set with no foam or gasket seal around edges with only the standard four doglegs (which are also generic and fragile plastic) so that if your ceiling isn't perfectly flat topography it's impossible to seal or block back waves. The frame has just a tiny turned up lip at the edge which takes away from the high grade drivers sound quality; thin enough to see light through. Only a half inch tolerance between cut out and hidden availability of frame, so don't get crazy cutting or doglegs won't clamp either. I say only four doglegs, but think…

Bought these speakers to use with the Lync system that HTD sells. I have no yet bought the system, but I connected the speakers to a temporary amp. The room that I tested is very large with a high ceiling and the sound fills the room. So far I think for the price and quality you can't beat it. Looking forward to connecting the Lync system and the other 10 speakers I purchased.
